I Am Chee Kieong Leong
As part of our #IAMJET employee campaign, meet Chee Kieong Leong, Assistant Manager P145 in Singapore
Could you briefly describe your role at Jet Aviation?
I do a lot of preplanning for incoming projects, this includes hangar space availability, manpower, tools and parts. It is also my job, along with support from other members of the team, to ensure that ongoing projects run according to their planned release-to-service date. Employee safety is another element. Aside from ensuring a safe environment I make sure all staff are provided with correct and necessary tools and equipment, this is a prerequisite to the successful execution of a job. Finally, as a manager I am in charge of ensuring that everyone is making an effort to achieve our goal of having a 5S workplace – Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain.
What is a typical day like?
I am like a bridge from senior management, translating higher level strategies into operating plans that drive the business. My day consists of about 50% meeting and discussing with management, 20% supporting problem resolution and decision making, 20% MRO operation and 10% coaching.
“This job also gives me an opportunity to participate more on management level strategies as well as provides a space for me to learn something different from my previous role as an engineer/supervisor.”
What are the main challenges you face in your role?
I always need to set a good example, learn to let go of tasks and trust my team to execute them. This why I can focus more on management issues.
Can you share 1 or 2 words which describe you in your role?
