I Am Stephen Charlett
As we relaunch our #IAMJET employee campaign, meet Stephen Charlett, Flight Line Coordinator at Jet Aviation Pearce
How long have you worked for Jet Aviation?
I have been an employee with Jet Aviation since 2018 when PTS Pearce was set up.
How did you come to Jet Aviation?
Prior to joining the company, I had worked at numerous other Defence aviation facilities throughout Australia and the world. When I saw the opportunity to join Jet Aviation at Pearce I jumped at the opportunity, the challenge of being part of the start-up of a program really appealed to me.
Can you briefly describe your job?
As the Flight Line Coordinator for the Pilot Training Systems contract at Pearce Western Australia, I oversee the flight line operations for the Number 2 Flight Training School. My role supports a fleet of 18 PC-21 aircraft, and the safe and efficient execution of the daily flying program.
What is a typical day?
A typical day for me involves communicating with various stakeholders, internal and external to Jet Aviation, along with managing a highly skilled team of Technicians. Our flying programme is constantly changing, due to events such as adverse weather, aircraft serviceability and aircrew availability. This can bring its own challenges, being able to successfully manage these is a key part of my role.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I really enjoy the challenges and variety of the Flight Line Coordinator position. This role has allowed me to develop a strong working relationship with our customer and help them to maximize their fleet utilization.
“I really enjoy the challenges and variety of the Flight Line Coordinator position. This role has allowed me to develop a strong working relationship with our customer and help them to maximize their fleet utilization.”
What are the main challenges you face in your role?
The main challenge is balancing different priorities. Our customer has their priorities on flying and our maintenance team have their priorities on maintenance. Being able to find the right balance can be challenging but finding balance is very satisfying.
What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy playing rugby and being involved in the club, I find it a great way to de stress, although my body is starting to tell me it’s time to hang up the boots. In summer I spend my Saturday mornings volunteering at my two young daughters little athletics club. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new destinations. With borders starting to open again, hopefully I’ll be able to travel again soon.
